Please feel free to forward this information to anyone in your network that might be interested in working on this regional initiative.  There are 4 upcoming "On-Boarding" meeting opportunities that you can attend.  They are one hour meetings to get you up-to-speed on Heartland 2050 if you are thinking that you have not been part of the process so might be difficult to jump in.
This initiative is about growing our region responsibly.  The guiding principles are Equity, Efficiency, Inclusivity, and Local Control/Regional Benefit.  If this is something of interest in which you would like to be involved, please reach out and we will get you connected.
 

Malvern Main Street Revitalization!

Malvern’s historic downtown has spent the last 2 years working on a downtown façade improvement project which encompasses 19 facades and had a budget of over $1 million dollars. Grants were received through the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s CDBG program, Iowa DNR, Iowa West Foundation, and the Mills County Community Foundation. Local match was provided by the City of Malvern and the respective building owners. Buildings in the project had various  work done to them, including tuck pointing, painting, woodwork, windows, and awnings. Partners with the project include Southwest Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO), Pinnacle Construction of Glenwood, Franks Design Group of Glenwood, Malvern Area Betterment Association (MABA), Malvern Trust & Savings Bank. Local project managers were Kate McGann and Fred Moreau with the Malvern City Council.

Vermeer Groundbreaking!

On April 30th, 2015, Vermeer celebrated a groundbreaking on 221st Street south of Glenwood for the construction of a 5,000 SF sales and service facility.  Vermeer is an industry leader in the manufacturing of trenching, drilling, and other heavy equipment.  Construction targeted to be completed by Fall 2015.

Subway Celebrates 20 years in Glenwood!

Subway celebrated 20 years in Glenwood in January 2015.  On April 2nd, they opened a new facility at their same location on South Locust Street in the Glenwood Plaza with the addition of Goodrich Ice Cream.  Congratulations to Jay & Kathy Klyn!

Loess Hills Harley Davidson…new owners…new management!

Expect lots of changes in the Loess Hills Harley Davidson facility!  They have new owners and new management.  Watch for upcoming events, promotions, expanded inventory, excellent service, and community collaboration.  Welcome Travis and Deb Metcalf!

Bomgaars Opens in Glenwood!

In November, Glenwood and southwest Iowa welcomed Bomgaars!  A 24,000 SF facility providing farm and home inventory opened at the intersection of Hwy. 34 and South Locust Street in Glenwood.  Michael Jensen will be the store manager.  We are Bomgaars #68 Store in America!

Highway 34/Missouri River Bridge Opens!

After close to 25 years of planning, lobbying, and tireless volunteer hours by two very passionate southwest Iowa businessmen, the Highway 34/Missouri River Bridge opened on October 22nd!  Larry Winum from Mills County and George Maher from Montgomery County led this Southwest Iowa Coalition Transportation Committee for many years.  This was a collaborative effort between Iowa and Nebraska, including IDOT, NDOR, other governmental agencies, and support from local, state, and federal legislators.  A bridge opening celebration was held at A&M Green Power with citizens and dignitaries from both states

Mills County Law Enforcement Center Opens!

The Mills County Law Enforcement Center opened in September 2014, located at 600 Industrial Avenue in Glenwood.  This new facility replaces the former location on the Glenwood Town Square.

Bomgaars is coming to Glenwood!

Good News for Glenwood/Mills County and the surrounding area...Bomgaars is making Glenwood home to another one of their over 60 locations!  Bomgaars is a perfect fit for the Glenwood community.  It is a four-season farm and home store.  They pride themselves in having what you need when you need it.  Planning will be done this 2013 fall and winter with construction to start in early spring of 2014.  A 20,000 square foot facility will be built on 4 acres on the northwest corner of South Locust Street and Hwy. 34 in the Glenwood city limits.   Welcome, Bomgaars!

This vision will guide community leaders, giving them a roadmap to our common future while identifying a long-term strategy to maximize public investments, promote economic growth and help everyone prosper well into the 21st century. The project encompasses eight counties: Cass, Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders and Washington counties in Nebraska; and Harrison, Mills, and Pottawattamie counties in Iowa.
